Six jailed after laundering £15m![]() David Aaronberg, Ann Mulligan and Darryn Rollinson recently concluded the successful prosecution of six defendants for their part in a conspiracy to launder the proceeds of a £15 million pound bank fraud. The trial at Southwark Crown Court was the second of three trials in connection with the fraud, all being conducted by the team from 15 NBS. All six defendants were found guilty of conspiracy to launder the proceeds of criminal conduct and were sentenced to a combined total of more than twenty years. Five of the six were also convicted of conspiracy to use false instruments. The original fraud involved the exploitation of a flaw in the banking system in which it was attempted to transfer over £20 million pounds out of a NatWest branch in St Helens. Over £15 million pounds was successfully stolen, which was laundered through a series of companies involved in sham mobile phone deals. The funds were eventually frozen in Latvia, en route to Dubai. The trial lasted more than three months and brings the total number of defendants who have been sentenced in connection with the fraud up to eleven. For further information
