Tim Bowden prosecutes in the "Tower Block Arsonist" case

[Image] Inside a prison cell

Tim Bowden prosecuted the case of Mr PM who on 13 March 2009 at Kingston Crown Court was sentenced to five years imprisonment for attempted aggravated arson.

The 20 year old defendant had purchased a can of petrol and gone to a 20 storey residential building containing 100 flats at approximately 1am. He had poured some three litres of petrol onto the carpet in the reception area before discarding a lit cigarette into the petrol and fleeing. Fortunately for the residents the petrol failed to ignite and the fire brigade were able to make the building safe.

The defendant was apprehended after his DNA was recovered from the cigarette. He confessed in interview but later retracted the confession.
