John Burton secures the acquittal of a defendant charged with large scale mortgage fraud![]()
John Burton acting as Leading Junior, secured the acquittal of IH in a large scale mortgage fraud conspiracy. IH was charged with 4 relatives and two others on two counts on an indictment alleging a conspiracy to obtain properties worth in excess of £3 million by committing deceptions on Building Societies and Banks. After a successful submission of no case by John, IH was acquitted of the main offence at the end of the Prosecution case but remained charged in relation to a mortgage fraud involving his own home. The Prosecution alleged in that Count that he was part of a conspiracy to sell his home to a nominee purchaser who used false details, supplied by other alleged conspirators to obtain a mortgage on that property. After two days of deliberation in a trial lasting 8 weeks, the jury acquitted IH on the remaining count on the indictment.
