Andrew Forsyth secures acquittal in £1/2 million fraud on the DWP and HMRC.![]()
Andrew Forsyth recently secured the acquittal of N following an eight week trial at Snaresbrook Crown Court on charges of conspiracies to defraud the Department of Work and Pensions and Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs. N was an employee of the DWP who had, by her own admission, accessed and copied personal details of some three thousand individuals on a confidential database in circumstances that were deemed unauthorised. Many of these identities were subsequently used in the presentation of fraudulent pension credit and tax credit claims. Both N's co-defendants were convicted. The total loss to HMRC was said to be in the region of £1/2 million.
