Stan Reiz secures acquittal in £40 million jewellery robbery
Stan Reiz has successfully defended Benjamin McFarlane against a charge of conspiring to rob Graff Jewellers in Mayfair on the 6th August 2009. Two gunmen made off with jewellery worth £40 million which has never been recovered. The prosecution case was that 7 others participated in the planning and execution of the robbery by facilitating the escape of the gunmen with their expensive haul. Following cross-examination of the prosecution's cell-site expert by Mr Reiz, the Crown accepted that there was no longer a case to answer against Mr McFarlane. The expert told the jury that the evidence was inconsistent with Mr McFarlane being in the vicinity of Graffs at the time of the robbery and furthermore, the cell-site analysis confirmed that Mr McFarlane could not have been in possession of mobile phones central to the plot at the relevant times.
A directed verdict of not guilty was returned by the jury at Woolwich Crown Court in respect of Mr McFarlane and one other defendant.
The trial for the remaining 7 defendants continues.
