Success in first Direct Access case for 15 New Bridge StreetLiam Walker successfully defended a member of the public, who had instructed him directly.Liam conducted the appeal against conviction of a man who had been convicted of assaulting his wife. Following legal argument the conviction was quashed and costs were awarded in full to the client. In 2010 the Legal Service Board liberalised the conditions on instructing barristers. Members of the public are now able to instruct barristers directly to conduct criminal cases. The outcome of the case conducted by Liam illustrates the potential cost savings to privately funded clients who wish to instruct barristers directly. To instruct Liam or any other of our barristers qualified to conduct direct access work please contact the clerks. 11 November 2010 |
