John M. Burton QC secures acquittal of murder in “faith healer” killingRubina Maroof was charged with the murder of Alfusaine Jabbi, an alleged "faith healer" in Luton in 2006. The Crown's case was that she had given him large sums of money which he would not return despite her making hundreds of calls to him. Rubina Maroof then arranged for a friend to lure him to Rubina Maroof's address where she and others were and there he was tortured and eventually killed. She had left the country the following day and not returned until 2010. Rubina Maroof accepted that; she had given some money to Alfusaine Jabbi, she had made calls to him, had arranged with a friend to get him to come to her address and had been present in the house when he was attacked. However, she denied she had played any part in the attack nor was aware that any harm was intended. The jury was persuaded that she was not guilty of murder. She was convicted of the lesser offences of manslaughter and conspiracy to falsely imprison. Media Reports22 November 2010 |
