David Aaronberg QC and Sophie Shotton secure "full house" of convictions in "Crash for Cash" scam

Six defendants, prosecuted for conspiracy to defraud insurance companies by making bogus claims, were all convicted at Southwark Crown Court.

The investigation commenced in 2008 and involved the consideration of more than 120 staged or non-existent car crashes, in which claims were made amounting to some £3 million. 40 individuals were arrested and Counsel advised as to who should be prosecuted in respect of individual claims, from whom cautions should be accepted and who should face a conspiracy charge.

All six men prosecuted for conspiracy were convicted and the ringleader was sentenced to 5 years' imprisonment.
