Christopher Grout has recently accepted an offer to go on secondment to the Qatar Financial Centre Civil and Commercial Court and Regulatory Tribunal (otherwise known as the Qatar International Court and Dispute Resolution Centre) as the Court and Tribunal's Acting Registrar.

The Court and Tribunal are established pursuant to Article 8 of Qatar Financial Centre Law No 7 of 2005 (as amended). The Court presently has jurisdiction to deal with disputes between QFC registered companies, a QFC registered company and the QFC, a QFC registered company and its employees, a QFC registered company and a non-QFC body it has contracted with, a QFC registered company and a citizen of the State of Qatar, and to those parties who have consented that the Court will have jurisdiction to deal with civil and commercial disputes that arise as between them. The Court also hears appeals from the QFC Regulatory Tribunal.
Judges of the highest international reputation have been appointed as members of the Court. The Rt. Hon. The Lord Woolf of Barnes is the current President of the Court and is due to be succeeded by the The Rt. Hon The Lord Phillips of Worth Matravers towards the end of this year.

The Regulatory Tribunal, the current Chairman of which is former Attorney General of Hong Kong Michael Thomas QC, acts as an appeal body from the decisions of Qatar Financial Centre institutions.

In addition to case managed trials, the Dispute Resolution Centre provides a full range of options for resolving disputes including mediation, arbitration, and other forms of ADR.
Commercial construction within the State of Qatar is growing at a rapid rate with an estimated current value of between $160 and $200 billion. This is particularly important in light of Qatar's successful bid to host the World Cup in 2022 and the Qatar National Vision 2030.
