Anand Beharrylal
1997
Anand is predominantly a criminal defence barrister, but also prosecutes for the Crown Prosecution Service and Local Authorities. He is instructed in cases ranging from Homicide, Sexual offences, Drugs offences (street supply to substantial importations) to large-scale Fraud and Judicial Review. Anand's criminal practice encompasses advice and representation for criminal defence solicitors alleged to have been negligent or against whom wasted costs have been ordered. In addition to being an experienced Crown Court practitioner, Anand has considerable experience providing advice and representation in the Court of Appeal (Criminal Division). His advocacy skills were paid specific tribute by the Court of Appeal in R v Willis [2007] EWCA Crim 79. Anand regularly undertakes criminal and civil work in Trinidad and Tobago, the latter of which includes Constitutional, Human Rights, Land, Wills and Probate matters. He also offers advice, drafting and advocacy services on appeals before the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council, both with and without leading counsel. Anand's presentation for the successful appellant was complimented by Lord Walker of Gestingthorpe in the Privy Council appeal of Lawrence v Poorah [2008] UKPC 21. Anand is strongly committed to high quality training for the Bar and is both an approved Pupil Supervisor and Advocacy Tutor for Lincoln's Inn. News
