James Pavry

1974

James is a specialist in serious crime with particular emphasis on corporate and "white-collar" crime. James both prosecutes and defends in cases at all levels. He is Standing Counsel to the Department of Business Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR). He has defended in recent cases involving a major stolen car "cloning" fraud, a "missing trader" VAT fraud and an excise duty diversion fraud. James has been instructed as leading counsel for the SFO in a seven month trial and most recently was instructed by the SFO as senior junior counsel in the prosecution of the executive directors of Independent Insurance. In a review of the SFO by USA attorney Jessica de Grazia this prosecution "of high public importance and unusual technical complexity" was singled out for praise as a "hard won victory". He is currently instructed by the SFO in their "oil for food" investigation relating to breach of sanctions on Iraq."
