Jodie undertakes a wide variety of criminal work. Her practice is predominantly in criminal defence however she also has experience in private prosecutions brought by Local Authorities and prosecuting for the Crown Prosecution Service. She has broad experience in most areas of criminal law including offences involving violence, dishonesty, offensive weapons, public order, drugs and driving matters.

R v JM (Chelmsford Crown Court)

Represented a man who pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm. After a night out the victim was punched once and fell causing bleeding to the brain. Successfully argued down the sentence to one of 12 months imprisonment.

R v RD (Chelmsford Crown Court)

Young boy acquitted of affray following a successful submission at half time that there was no case to answer. The Crown alleged that RD was part of a large group of 10 youths who committed a sustained attack on two ‘good samaritans' who intervened in a verbal assault on another male. After submissions the Judge accepted that whilst there was evidence that RD had been involved in the initial verbal incident, there was no evidence on which the Crown could rely to prove that he had been present and participating in what happened thereafter.

R v DS (Court of Appeal (Criminal Division))

Successful appeal against sentence of DS who had pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice. Having admitted to a crime that had been committed by his father DS was sentenced to 21 months imprisonment. The Court of Appeal reduced the term to one of 15 months.(Citation [2011] EWCA Crim 12)

R v KM (Chelmsford Crown Court)

Represented a 17 year old who pleaded guilty to a number of offences of dishonesty but also asked for over 90 offences to be taken into consideration.

R v CB (Chelmsford Crown Court )

Represented a young woman accused by 6 people of racially abusing her neighbour following what the Crown alleged was a drunken night out.

R v AD (Maidenhead Youth Court April 2010)

Secured the acquittal of a youth charged together with 4 others with Assault occasioning Actual Bodily Harm. The group, all of whom were known to the victim, were alleged to have committed a protracted and unprovoked violent assault.
