Louise Hartley2008Louise's practice is predominately criminal defence with experience of defending in the Crown, Magistrates and Youth Courts, although she also prosecutes benefit fraud cases for the DWP and local authority clients. Louise has a wide experience of serious cases and has successfully represented people charged with a variety of offences including Assault, Robbery, Burglary, Theft, Fraud and Possession of Class A Drugs. Louise also accepts instructions in Immigration and Asylum appeals. Recent CasesR v W Secured the acquittal of a defendant at Harrow Crown Court charged with possession of an offensive weapon. R v D Made a successful appeal against sentence at Guildford Crown Court on behalf of a client convicted of driving offences R v T Secured a non-disqualification outcome for a motorcyclist convicted of driving at speeds up to 113 mph in 70mph limit at Crawley Magistrates Court Pro Bono WorkLouise is committed to Pro Bono work with Amicus, an organisation which represents convicted prisoners in capital cases in the USA. Her work with the organisation has included time spent as an intern placed with a small US law practice in Arizona, and directly involved her with clients on Death Row. Other Relevant ExperiencePrior to joining Chambers, Louise worked as a barrister's clerk. She has also worked as a paralegal for a firm of solicitors specialising in death in custody actions, and actions against the police, and has gained some experience in US law.
